Why join the NUTGAP program at UC Davis?

Student
Alana Chaney, a former UC HBCU Initiative Program scholar, now is a PhD candidate in Nutritional Biology at UC Davis. She received a UC Davis Dissertation Year Fellowship to support her final year of writing, and has been appointed a Science Policy Fellow by the American Society for Nutrition.

For students who seek graduate study in nutritional biology, the answer is simple: the NUTGAP program at UC Davis will provide superb preparation for graduate study.

Our faculty conduct transformational research in both basic science and applications to nutrition policy, and are skilled mentors recognized for their work with students. We recognize that all of us -- faculty, students, staff -- are an integral part of UC Davis and we pledge to work together to value our individual differences and common humanity as embodied in the UC Davis Principles of Community.

UC Davis faculty support work-life balance and we encourage visiting scholars to explore Northern California on weekends. NUTGAP scholars will experience a close-knit academic community that lies in a college town within half an hour from the Sacramento metropolitan area and two hours from San Francisco, with access via convenient public transportation. For those who seek outdoor recreation, Davis has miles of bike paths and pleasant trails for walking and running, with hiking in the Sierras two hours east and the Sonoma coast two hours to the west.
